12 Things To Be Grateful For Right Now

For a long time I had heard talk from the day time TV rich and famous about being grateful and the amazing benefits it has on your life.

Well that’s easy for you Oprah, I would think to myself. I’d be pretty grateful if I were you too!

The more I listened however, the more it started to make sense. The more I thought about it the more I wanted to know.

Then one day in June 2007, according to the note she wrote inside the front cover, my mum bought me a book called The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. Over the years I have read this book several times and if you haven’t already I highly recommend you get yourself a copy.

“As you learn The Secret, you will come to know how you can have, be or do anything you want. You will come to know who you really are. You will come to know the true magnificence that awaits you in life.” – from the Introduction

The one part of this book that particularly stuck with me was The Powerful Process of Gratitude.

Gratitude is choosing to be thankful for all of the little things and simple pleasures that you already have in your life. Being continuously aware of every little miracle that is happening around you at any given moment. Being grateful for every thing you receive no matter how big or small.

An attitude of gratitude increases your happiness and reduces stress. Gratitude improves your relationships as well as your health.

Being continuously thankful shifts your mindset from one being focused on what is lacking to an awareness of the abundance all around you.

The amazing part of having a mind focused on abundance is that what you think about most expands!

I loved my new found knowledge. It gave me the belief that I have a lot more control over my life than I had ever given myself credit for. I even started writing in a gratitude journal every night!

Just in case you could do with a little inspiration, I have put together a list of my own.

Here are 12 things that I am grateful for right now:

1. This Moment

Right now I am alive. That’s fantastic right there.

2. The Sky

I love to look up to the sky, day or night. Blue skies and sunshine or big fluffy clouds and rain. The stars and the moon. The sky is a great reminder that I am part of an amazing universe where everything has it’s place.

3. My Daughter

My daughter Jasmin is beautiful, smart, funny and caring. Sometimes I look at her and think  Wow, look what I made..

4. My Home

My home is my castle and I am the Queen.

5. Music

I love music!! I love to sing. I love to dance. I love connecting with people through music. Love, Love, Love.

6. My Family

These people are my tribe. They love and support me no matter what.

7. My Friends

These people are my other tribe. They are all wonderful and inspiring people. They are also funny which is awesome. And they laugh at my jokes, which is really awesome.

8. My Cat

Rosie purrs when I pick her up and she loves a cuddle. My lap warmer extraordinaire.

9. The Beach

My happy place. I love the energy of the sea. Maybe it’s the Pisces in me.

10. Art

I love to visit local Art Galleries. Art shows us that everything is viewed from an individual perspective. Art is beautiful and thought provoking. It is divine expression.

11. Food and Wine

I am fortunate enough to have access to amazing food and wine through friends, my work and the city in which I live. I love great food and wine. It compliments my other loves. Music, art, friends, family and even the beach.. Bliss.

12. Health and Fitness

I am healthier and fitter than I have ever been and it feels great!

My wish for you is that you can be aware of all the amazing things you have around you in your life right now too.

Thank you for reading.

I loved this blog post! I loved it from start to finish. It hit a few nerves (in a good way). Left me tingling all over with joy. It is so true Toni. It truly is the ‘little’ things that make you the happiest (experienced it) many times over. Like growing up for us, was with our grandparents who didnt’ have much in the way of money but boy, we had the best of everything else. The best apple trees, the best trout in our river, the best chestnuts off the trees, the best cardboad boxes turned sleighs to sleigh down the iced up hillsides, the best weekends camping away at our favourite beach, the best times getting together with famz and extended and cooking up a feast in the ground and sharing it with all who came and singing well, don’t get me started lol (singers) in abundance hehe!. Yes, it is the little things that make you feel so grateful. GREAT SHARE! Thanks…

  • I really enjoyed reading this post Toni- a ‘feel good’ experience. I remember reading somewhere years ago if you were feeling down to look up – at the sky. I have found you can’t look up and not feel good! I agree, it’s amazing looking into infinity whether it’s daytime or at night, with the miracle of stars swathed across the horizon. I am grateful you shared this with us. 😉

Toni I so relate to 2, 5 and 11. Then there is 3 of which I have 2. I couldn’t agree more with 9, the beach is my happy place also, the smell and the sounds, so relaxing. Last but not least is 8 except I have dogs, love em to bits.

What a package of energy….fantastic healthy share without telling anyone that they have to get out of bed, put on their running shoes, get active and enjoy life. This is a health statement, that is plain and simple, it is true and it is real. Tell it like it is….the message is for those who feel it…. O for Orsum Toni…luved it….keep expressing yourself
